Top-Five Fantasy Defenses (Week 6)
I cannot remember a time when the NFL lacked a dominant defense. I guess with Pittsburgh and Tennessee on bye it makes sense that any defensive unit this week will be a tough one to choose. As I’ve stated in the past ” I usually try drafting a defense playing on their home field” but this week is somewhat of an exception. If you don’t get Minnesota at home against Detroit or the Redskins at home against St. Louis you’re left with taking your chances with the Giants on MNF, Green Bay in Seattle, Chicago, and Philadelphia on the road. Either way, draft well and good luck in your games this week.
Take a look at this weeks top-five defenses.
Minnesota: With Detroit headed to town and an absent Jon Kitna (not that it would matter if he were healthy) this Minnesota defense looks like the pick of the week. Detroit has turned it over eight times through only four games and they have allowed 16 sacks. While Minnesota has nine takeaways and eight sacks.
Philadelphia Eagles: The more I look at Philly’s matchup in San Francisco the more I wish I would’ve drafted them in more leagues. The Forty-Niners have given up 20 sacks and turned the ball over 12 times while the Eagles are tied for the league lead with 18 sacks and nine takeaways. Philadelphia ranks sixth in total defense and will exploit every weakness of the entire Forty-Niner offense.
Green Bay Packers: Without a healthy Hasselbeck the Seahawks will depend on God knows who to run this offense. Coming off a bye week with plenty of time to prepare Seattle gave up 44 points while turning the ball over one time and allowing two sacks against the Giants in week five. If Seattle plays like that this week Green Bay’s defense will have plenty of opportunity to gather fantasy points.
Washington Redskins: Washington is at home facing a miserable St. Louis offense which has turned the ball over seven times and rank 30th in total offense through four games. There’s no mystery that the Rams cannot protect the quarterback and while Washington is towards the bottom of the league in sacks they won’t be after Sunday.
New York Giants: Headed to Cleveland on Monday Night Football the Giants are looking to remind the world that they are defending champions and that they are the team to beat. On the other hand, Cleveland is looking to rebound after a horrific start to the 2008 season. The Giants get to the quarterback (15 sacks) and Cleveland cannot protect theirs. Being a fan of the Browns I hate to say that the Giants are an excellent defensive option this week.
